January - cold and slow fishing.
This time of year it´s important to think about the details in my opinion. Due to low temperatures, I like to prepare my bait differently from when it's warmer in the water. I like to get as much sent out there as possible so the slow carp can notis it from a long distance.
Soak your boilies.
Firstly I soak my bait in hot water, preferably lake water to not introduce any foreign smells, for 15-20 minutes. I prefer to use MP1 Boilies from SBM in the cold months, with a colorful pop up on the hook, like an SL2 Fluoro Popup to stand out from the bait spread.
Cut/grind your boilies.
After a good 15-10 minutes - cut or crush the boilies to smaller and more easily spread pieces. This gives me more surface area to introduce flavor and scent - the liquid, and I like to add quite a lot.
Mix with preferred flavoring.
To make it even more attractive, add base mix and sweet corn to the mixture. Let this soak for a good while in advance to make it pungent. The result is going to be a really sticky flavor bomb that's going to spread really well in the feeding zone - and give you really big fish!
To make the pre baiting a lot easier you can use a Bait Boat to get the bait exactly where you want it, stealthy and easy! Check out our bait boats here.
